About

Shadrach Smith M.D.

Dr. Smith is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency and a fellowship in primary care at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa Medical College. The focus of his medical practice is metabolic and obesity medicine. He is board-certified in obesity medicine and internal medicine. He is considered one of the area’s leading authorities on the medical management of obesity.

“I fell in love with helping people when I was a freshman in college while working the information booth in the Registrar’s office. Since then, helping people solve their everyday problems is all I've wanted to do. Where I may differ from other physicians is that I have a multi-dimensional approach to health. That is, I focus on the biological, motivational and cultural barriers that get in the way of people reaching their health and wellness goals. For me, patients are not just vital signs, laboratory tests or numbers on a scale. They are seeking my assistance to help them achieve the highest physical and mental health possible in order for them to live life to its fullest.”

Dr. Smith has been very active in the Kansas City community for many years. He has served as an Associate Professor of Medicine at KU Medical School as well as UMKC. In addition, he is a past president of the Kansas City Medical Society and the University of Kansas Medical School Alumni Association. Recently, he was member of the board of directors of American Board of Obesity Medicine.
